The fresh smell of Mediterranean spices smacks you in the face when you walk in and you’re already certain you’ve picked a good spot. At lunch, you’ll order at the counter and then take your number to the table. You’ll get a very local vibe in all respects here, especially  from the giant boards naming all the ingredients and listing their local origins.

I ordered the ACE OF FELAFEL PITA ($6.50) and it arrived at the table in a pretty quick 10 mins or so after ordering it. Served with 3 felafel pieces over grilled vegetables–cucumbers?, eggplant and zucchini. It’s then topped with a cole slaw and chatta (not sure what the hell that was, but it was delicious) and wrapped in a very fresh, fluffy pita. The felafel was very lightly fried for a not-too-heavy taste. Light, slightly sweet sauce brings it together and goes further to complement the fried taste.

The sandwiches all come a la carte, so I added the FETTOOSH SALAD ($3 for medium). Somewhat disappointingly, it was  just their house salad with shredded romaine, cucumber, tomato, radish, parsley and green onion in a very lemon-y dressing. I’m not saying it was bad, but it’s a mistake to order this with all the other options on there like the HUMMUS, BABA GHANOJU, or MOUSAKA.

I’ll definitely have to try the BAKLAVA GELATO next time–there’s no way that’s not amazing.
BOTTOM LINE: Awesome fresh and local Mediterranean in downtown Winston-Salem. Be sure to check this place out if you’re looking for a cheap lunch spot.
