The Deal

Earn 2x points on your first rental and then 3x the Hertz Gold Plus Rewards Points on all subsequent rentals for all rentals from January 7 – March 25, 2015. Normal rate is 1 point = $1 spend; now $1 spend = 2 or 3 points.

How to Get It

1. Register here: Hertz Winter Bonus no later than March 25, but before your first rental
2. All qualifying rentals (see below on what might exclude you from earning) starting after Jan 7 and before March 25 will qualify for bonus
3. Extra points are expected to post no later than 10 business days after return

Analysis

This is a solid promo and better than those in the past year. I would suggest planning a cheap and short rental at first so that it qualifies for 2x points; this will make you poised to begin earning 3x points on all rentals afterwards. If you have a multi-day rental soon, it might even be worth booking separate reservations with a one-day rental to start with so that the 3x bonus kicks in as soon as possible.

A Hertz Free Rental Day award starts at just 675 points meaning you’d need to spend just $225 with the promotion to earn a free rental day. Since Hertz Five Star bonuses earn 3x as well, you’ll need to spend $204 for a free rental day. Hertz President’s Circle member will earn 675 points, enough for the free rental day, after $180 in spending with this promotion.

• Base points ($1/point) are doubled/tripled. The Hertz Five Star 10% bonus and Hertz President’s Circle 25% bonus are also double/tripled.

BOTTOM LINE:  This is a nice promo to rack up some Hertz Gold Plus Rewards points pretty fast. Some members will earn a free rental day after only $180 in spending with the 3x promo.
