I’m not a super picky eater, so one of my favorite things to do when traveling is try new foods. I’ve found that plenty of the foods I fall in love with in another country happen to be available back home, but I’d just never branched out to try something I couldn’t pronounce.
For example, my very favorite Thai dish is something most people around here have never heard of… and it’s way, way better than Pad Thai, guys.
So, here’s a rundown of my favorite foods from other countries – and some suggestions for what to try on your next trip, whether it’s to one of these countries or to your local Mom & Pop ethnic [...]
OK, even though we don’t know where exactly we’re going on our honeymoon yet, believe me, I’ve been daydreaming a lot about it.
What’s not to love about a tropical vacation, really? Pretty blue water, white sand, fun drinks and warm weather…yes, please. But, probably my most favorite part about planning for our very, very fun trip is buying new bikinis! Here are a few of my favorites: A little bit tribal, a little bit girly, this one from Net-A-Porter will flatter any figure. But, if you don’t want to break the bank with just one [...]
Always make sure to set a few reminders to double check your hotel bookings to see if any specials have become available since you’ve booked.
On our recent trip to Europe, I made a booking using Starpoints a few months in advance for a stay at The Westin Europa & Regina in Venice, Italy. I determined the Starpoints Cash and Points redemption to be a great value:
I booked a “Deluxe Room” for 8,000 points + $150 USD instead of paying 451 euros (appx $631 USD) for the same room. This yielded a return of:
An amazing return of 6.01 cents/point!
Not satisfied with the hotel though, I kept checking SPG.com for an opening at either the Gritti [...]
UPDATE Oct 3, 2013: Added HNL-SJU UPDATE Nov 27, 2013: Added FLL-SEA and ADK-SJU

Longest non-stop commercial flight in the contiguous 48 states:Winner: Miami (MIA) to Seattle (SEA) on American Airlines at 2,724 miles in 6 hours 40 minutes. Update Nov 28, 2013: Close second is Alaska Airlines’ Ft. Lauderdale-FLL to Seattle-SEA. The 2,717 miles route takes 6 hr 35 mins on a B737 (thanks reader Red Guevarra!)

Guess we’ll have to call this one a “week pick,” given it’s about a day late…
Airplanes, mass transits, smoggy streets… all of these and more add up to tons of extra exposure your skin gets to grimy, dirty air when you travel.
What does this mean for your skin while you’re exploring new (and potentially not-so-clean) places? Not good things, my friends.
That’s why it’s extra-important to take good care of your skin; the recycled air in airplanes, buses and subways wreaks havoc on your skin if you’re not careful. And the result: dry skin, breakouts – all things you don’t want. And, the last [...]
I’ve prepared a handy map to see where in the world “X” number of Delta Skymiles will take you. This should help a lot in visualizing where in the world you can travel to with those miles you’ve been saving up over the years. You’ll find a few sweet spots that might help you save a few thousand Skymiles here or there, too, such as:
North America to Guyana is 35k miles, however, to travel to neighboring Suriname or Brazil will cost you 45k or 60k — so maybe explore the possibility of booking award travel to Guyana and then purchasing a cheap ticket to your final destination North America to Istanbul can be had for 60k Skymiles and might be a [...]So I recently discovered a loophole when flying Delta a few weeks ago and exploited the hell out of it.
The end result? Not only did I get a more desirable schedule, I was upgraded to First class on all 3 of my flights.
How to Get It / What I Did:
Wait for a change/delay in your flight schedule. This part is really just getting lucky. When Delta has a delay in excess of 15 mins (I know there is a threshold), a warning message pops up on its website/iPhone/Android app informing you of the change and asking you if you’d like to find alternate flights. a Select “View Alternates.” You should notice that it shows very clearly that the options include [...]OK, so on our trip to Turkey last year, I wore my brand new pair of TOMS for the first time.
And, I wore them for the whole trip. Which was great — my feet were never tired — until it was time to take pictures.
TOMS are just not very trendy. [tippy title=”Unless you’re a hipster.” width=”350″ height=”263″] [/tippy] Which I’m [...]
Tropical vacations are one of the most fun vacations to take…
until…
your hair looks like Monica’s in Barbados:
Now, I don’t mean to sound like an ungrateful brat, but that’s a vacation-ruiner if I’ve ever seen one.
And, because my hair is prone to frizz just like all the rest of us non-TRESemmé models, here’s a few tricks of the trade I’ve picked up along the way:
1. Use a moisturizing conditioner:
I’ve found that Redken’s Clear Moisture conditioner works pretty well. Just squeeze a few day’s worth into a small travel bottle from Wal Mart for .99 cents, and [...]
So many people think that denim is the best choice for travel — it goes with everything and you can wear the same jeans every day and no one notices. Wrong-o. I hate wearing jeans on a plane. It’s hard to move and not very forgiving in those teeny tiny seats (if you happen to be in Coach). Who is with me?
While jeans are nice – and usually a good choice – there’s something even better: black pants. Black pants are easy: they really do go with anything (yes, even brown) AND can be dressed up or dressed down as needed. And, bonus – they don’t get dirty easily.
My black pants double as leggings, so I wear them with: oversized [...]
