STS9 (Sound Tribe Sector 9) & Umphrey’s McGee 8/28/13 Summer Tour 2013 Review – August 28, 2013 – Uptown Amphitheatre at NC Music Factory – Charlotte, NC
Update 9/10: Finally got the STS9 videos up! See below.
Following a 20-30 minute set from the opening DJ, Umphrey’s took the stage right at 7pm starting their 1hr 45min set. Mixing in a few awesome covers (JJ Cale’s “Cocaine”) along with the classics, the band put on an awesome show–albeit the crowd was still rather sparse.
By 9:25pm, STS9 took the stage with an electric opener–the pit section was packed by this point! Review from [...]
Delta SkyMiles is notoriously one of the worst frequent flyer programs to use for award travel. The seat availability for award travel is slim, their website is buggy/broken and it’s difficult to book seats on SkyTeam partner airlines with Delta SkyMiles. These things said, it’s not at all impossible to book award travel on Delta–it just takes longer and requires you to have more flexibility. This series will help you understand how to squeeze the most amount of value out of your Delta SkyMiles.
Searching for award availabilityThe list goes in order of Delta hub size and therefore, number of flights offered. I recommend starting with the hubs first because [...]

Good values that I’m seeing:
Overall the list is sort of weak, 69 of the 113 properties (61%) are in the US. The InterContinental Kiev [...]Well, it’s August again, so that means back to the Family Circle Stadium in Charleston for Hootie & The Blowfish’s 11th Annual Homegrown Concert. Despite the threat of rain and 110% humidity the band took the stage around 8:45pm and put on a great show that never disappoints. They hit all of the classics, a few from Darius’ solo gig, tried-and-trusted REM & Zeppelin covers and a few new covers as well (Violent Femmes anyone?). [...]
Guess where we’re headed tonight? Well, first we’ll be singin’ along to every single Hootie and the Blowfish song at tonight’s concert… And THEN…
Yep, that’s right, we’re headed to Edisto Island, one of my favorite places in the world!
Edisto is one of South Carolina’s Sea Islands and offers what most other beaches don’t: almost nothing. There’s no hotel, no fast food restaurant and no stop light on Edisto.
Welcoming all visitors is the “Mystery Tree,” a tree in the middle of the marsh that has been mysteriously decorated each season. And, inviting all those leaving the [...]

Fresh after landing at Paris-CDG, we had hoped to have a chance to check out the Air France Arrivals Lounge at Charles de Gaulle but were worried about making our train connection. So we just sucked it up and scurried out to baggage claims, but not before passing a very casual form of “Customs and Immigration” which consisted of an area with a few French police/military decked out in fatigues and submachine guns. They stopped me, seemed confused that I spoke French and then insinuated that I’d just come off the flight from either Casablanca or Cairo, when I corrected them and said that I came from New York JFK they seemed even more confused, checked the arrivals board and then waved [...]
