Tomorrow is one of my favorite holidays of the year. Summer fun without all the hustle and bustle of buying gifts that usually comes with a holiday…sign me up!

And, while it may be a little late to plan a visit to these places, I thought it’d be fun to share my top 5 places in the US to celebrate ‘Merica.

5. Ocala, Florida

Located in northern Florida (and, notably, in the middle of the state), Ocala is home of the Silver Springs’ July 4th Extravaganza, where KC & The Sunshine Band is in concert. What better way to celebrate this summer holiday than a Florida vacation with “All My Love” ringing through the night?!

4. Bristol, Rhode Island

Held since 1785, the Bristol 4th of July Parade is the oldest continuous Independence Day celebration in the United States. And, if Florida’s too hot for you, I bet Rhode Island is nice and cool this time of year.

3. Seward, Nebraska

Another small town that’s never been heard of before… Seward, Nebraska made our list! Why? Since 1868, Seward has held a celebration on the same town square. In 1979, Seward was designated “America’s Official Fourth of July City-Small Town USA” by resolution of Congress. Hello? Congress made this one official.

2. New York, New York

Obviously one of the best places to celebrate our nation’s birthday is our nation’s favorite city. And, don’t miss Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest in Coney Island, Brooklyn, which has been going on since 1916. It supposedly started as a way to settle a dispute among four immigrants as to who was the most patriotic.

What’s more patriotic than beating Kobayashi on our nation’s birthday?

And, while you’re here, catch the famous Macy’s fireworks display held over the Hudson River.

1. Washington, D.C.

And, what better place to be than our nation’s capital? On the Capitol lawn, “A Capitol Fourth” (a free concert) precedes the fireworks and attracts over half a million people annually.
